Symptoms of Sinus Cancer

The symptoms of sinus cancer seem very innocent, which makes it difficult to diagnose. Many people disregard the symptoms they are experiencing because they do not think they are serious. Sinus cancer is a cancer that arises in the mucosa, which is the lining of the sinus.

Early symptoms of sinus cancer

Nosebleeds are one of the most common early symptoms of sinus cancer. Patients experience blood in their mucous or they have blood gush from their nose. A recurrent stuffy nose is also a sign of sinus cancer, especially if it never really goes away. Tooth pain is a less common symptom, but it signals the early stages of sinus cancer in some patients. Usually these symptoms occur when the sinus cancer is in its early stages and has not spread to other areas of the face or body.

More advanced symptoms

The symptoms of sinus cancer become more invasive as the disease progresses, because it often invades other areas of the face. Patients may experience hearing loss, lumps in their neck and difficulty opening and closing their jaw. Blurry vision and excessive tearing can signal that the cancer has spread to the eye area. The tumor in the sinus puts pressure on a variety of nerves, which cause numbing throughout the facial area as well.

Sinus cancer is fairly rare and it is not likely to occur in any specific type of patient. It is important to know the symptoms and have them monitored by a physician in a timely manner to prevent the rapid spread of the cancer.
