Symptoms of Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a form of cancer that strikes men frequently as they get older which is why familiarity with the symptoms of prostate cancer is beneficial. Often, prostate cancer grows slowly, taking years to exact its toll, but some forms are quite virulent and progress rapidly. As is the case with many types of cancer, there might be no symptoms in the early stages of the disease. The sooner prostate cancer is detected, diagnosed and treated, the better the chance of long-term survival.

Urinary issues

Problems with urination are often an early indication that there is a problem with the prostate. These include frequent urges to urinate (especially at night), difficulty starting urination, difficulty holding back urine, weak or interrupted flow of urine, pain or burning during urination and blood in the urine. If you experience any of these symptoms, consult with your physician as soon as possible.

Sexual issues

Sexual performance is another area that is impacted when prostate cancer is present. Men experience difficulty obtaining and maintaining an erection, with pain during ejaculation and blood in the semen. Again, a visit to the doctor is in order if any of these issues arise.

Pain

Bone pain is sometimes present in men with prostate cancer. This manifests itself as pain in the lower back, hips or upper thighs. Discuss discomfort with your doctor.

All of the symptoms mentioned above are indicative of prostate cancer. Visit your doctor to get the correct diagnosis. There are a number of successful treatments available for prostate cancer and the sooner it is detected and treated, the better the outcome.
