Limb Amputation from Sarcomas

• After some experimenting, you may find that intercourse can be managed without any changes or adjustment in position.
• You may find that you use a bit more energy, which can cause some mild fatigue, but this rarely prevents sexual function.
• Pillows or other supports can be used to keep your pelvis level if balance and movement become a problem.
• The bedroom is not necessarily the only room where you can make love. A sofa or large chair in the living room may be helpful to provide balance.
• A side-lying position may be good for you if you have had an upper extremity amputation. This allows your other arm to be free to help with your balance.
• If you have had a hemipelvectomy, you may have some extra skin folds used to make your flaps. These skin folds can be held in place by compression stockings. This "sock" can be modified with an opening in the crotch to allow for intercourse.
