Treatment of Cancer Pain

There are two major ways to treat cancer pain: (1) Pharmacological Methods and (2) Non-pharmacological methods. Pharmacological methods involve the use of medicines, also called analgesics. Non-drug treatments such as biofeedback, imagery, relaxation, distraction and others are the non-pharmacological approach. Both methods can be combined to provide a well-rounded treatment plan.

People respond differently to pain medications and pain management techniques. Medications are prescribed according to the type and cause of pain. A variety of methods are available for pain relief. The cause of pain influences how each method works.
