Early detection of changes

It is important for you or a caregiver to look at your mouth on a regular basis to identify any changes that may occur. Becoming familiar with what your mouth looks like normally will help you to recognize changes earlier. You will need a hand held light and a mirror to do this.

It is important to report oral cavity changes to your health care provider as soon as they occur. This includes changes in sensation, sores that you may or may not be able to see, and bleeding.
