Cancer Drug Costs

  • The cost of cancer treatment, both drugs and procedures, is insane! The fact that the Health Care Reform Act removed the lifetime caps that many insurers used to impose has been a major factor in addressing the affordability of cancer care. Before this change many families were forced into bankruptcy once they reached the caps of their health care policies. - Anonymous

  • We have cures for cancer. The cost of research and the materials to make the drugs are very expensive. Unless we start getting more and more people to donate to these causes, there won't be any free or reduced prices seen for these drugs. There are many large companies who are looking to donate, they just aren't moving in the cancer drug charities. - Anonymous

  • The costs are just huge. My mother actually suffered from three different kinds of cancer at the same time. It was very difficult. Had she not had an abundance of insurance going into this, I am not sure what would have happened. Her medical and drug expenses were still huge. I don't know how anyone uninsured or under-insured gets by. - Anonymous

  • Cancer drugs can be very expensive, and not all insurances cover the costs as well as others. If you have no insurance or bad coverage, you may be fortunate enough to enroll in a clinical study for experimental treatments. In this case, the cost is paid for by the researchers. This can help keep your associated medical costs to a minimum. - Anonymous

  • The high cost of drugs to treat cancer is an issue that must be addressed. In the absence of insurance coverage, there should be subsidies that encourage the drug manufacturers to make these drugs affordable to everyone who needs them. This is especially the case where a generic drug would be cheaply available but the drug company has no incentive to manufacture it because it is not profitable for them to do so. - Anonymous

  • Cancer affects people from all walks of life, so the cost of cancer treatment drugs should not be out of reach for the average individual. Help should be available to people without insurance who need cancer treatment drugs, so they are not suffering needlessly. Insurance companies should be expected to take the lead in making treatment affordable for those stricken with the disease. - Anonymous

  • Cancer treatment drugs can be extraordinarily expensive, even to the point of reaching beyond the limit that health insurance will pay out. It's a depressing fact that families in the United States can go into bankruptcy attempting to pay for a loved one's treatment. Sometimes, though, there are experimental studies that a patient may qualify for, which will cover the cost of the drugs used. - Anonymous
